Craig Sauvé
Craig Sauvé is a City Councillor representing the Southwest borough since 2013, and serving as Deputy Mayor of the borough since 2021. An advocate in favour of the development of Public Transit, Craig served as Vice President of the STM from 2017-2021 and worked alongside fellow municipal officials from across Canada in sitting on the Canadian Urban Transit Association's (CUTA) Members Committee from 2019-2021.
Housing affordability is a priority issue for Craig. In 2017 and 2018 he served as Vice-Chair of the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal's (CMM) Social Housing Committee and as Associate Councillor for Housing on the Executive Committee.
In 2018 he rewrote the City of Montreal’s domestic animal bylaw, improving it to become a policy based on science, animal welfare, and respect for responsible pet guardians.
Craig supports local small businesses by sitting on the boards of two Commercial Development Associations (SDCs): the Quartiers du Canal (since 2014) and the Point Saint-Charles SDC (since its founding in 2022).
Craig is a tireless community activist. Before serving in elected politics, from 2008 to 2011, he was a co-host of a popular community radio talk show on CKUT 90.3 FM. In 2011, Craig joined forces with SOS Meadowbrook as a member of their steering committee in order to protect local green spaces; and that same year he was active as a founding member of the Québec-wide anti-corruption citizens' group, La Ligue d'Action Civique.
It is not only in his capacity as City Councillor that Craig is aware of local issues in the riding: he has been a resident of the Southwest since 1998; and, from 2011 until his election in 2013, Craig was the Parliamentary Assistant to the LaSalle-Émard NDP Member of Parliament, Hélène LeBlanc.
Craig is also a polyglot who enjoys learning languages and can communicate in varying levels in over 10 languages. He is also an animal lover and is widely known for his passion for Heavy Metal Music...but won't impose his tastes on others unless they ask in earnest!
